Hm, looks like that has something to do with organic searches and SSL: https://support.google.com/analytics.../2795833?hl=en

I haven't tried any of the tips, but Search Engine Watch has an article about getting more data: https://searchenginewatch.com/sew/ho...ic-search-data

And Kissmetrics has this article as well: https://blog.kissmetrics.com/unlock-...-not-provided/

From what I understand the [not provided] is a measure google uses to make it easier to use their PPC than trying to figure out what the [not provided] is.

The really only way to get some keyword data in analytics is to use Google Search Console's Search Queries report - link that account to GA. Then use the Acquisition report in GA to get this data. However, you can't see any conversion eCommerce data this way.

you can't get this data from the referrer anymore. You can can however get an idea using google search console. If you export a query report and toss that data into a rank tracker and then do some matching in excel, you can see whats driving clicks impressions, and the ctr for the queries. What you can't get from that data, is which of those specific keywords are driving leads... I personally don't think that is that huge of a loss anymore, since you optimize more for the page nowadays than the keyword...

    hope that helps!

Can you expand on what you mean by optimize more for the page?

Not provided data is due to google encryption of queries for logged in users (that's what they say ) and it represents around 70% of searches on the site i track in analytics.

    Good way of doing it.
You could also cross Adwords estimated traffic for your keywords with your landing pages positions in SERPs (for every keyword the page ranks for) and make some simple maths in excel. But this would only give you a rough idea.

I've also found organic and paid report in adwords useful, if a site is driving enough volume organically and has a decent spend...

Sure, back in the day, you used to optimize for the keyword and do content strategy based on modifiers of keywords, similar to the way that you build out super tight adgroups in adwords, now a days you optimize around a keyword theme...best way to explain is by way of example:

    Old way:
    URL: https://www.example.com/widgets

Keywords That Page Would Be Optimized For:
    [widgets]
    [widgets for sale]
    [discount widgets]
    [cheap widgets]

    Now adays
    URL: https://www.example.com/widgets

Keywords That Page Would Be Optimized For:
    [widgets]
    [widgets for sale]
    [discount blue ]
    [putting together] (modifier, related concept)
    [sizes] (modifier, related concept)
    [assemby] (modifier, related concept)
    [acme] (modifier, related concept)

A good, scaled up, ecomm example of the new way are the product questions on amazon ...on the lead gen side, its more like providing technical specs, and beefing up those landing pages in meaningful ways.... this goes back to around 2013 around the hummingbird update: FAQ: All About The New Google "Hummingbird" Algorithm
