New tracking code for Google Analytics

Google has introduced new version of tracking code for Analytics. Old Urchin code (they call it Legacy Tracking Code now) is still working but:

"Please note that urchin.js will not receive feature updates and is not compatible with new features."

    Also:

"We recommend that you do not include both tracking code snippets together on any given page. Doing so might generate inaccurate report data. You can, however, migrate select pages of your site to the new tracking code while the legacy code remains on others."

Not sure at this moment what new features are mentioned here. If you know anything about it - please share.

I had the option to use the new code when I added a new site to my Analytics area, but not for the already existing ones.

There's no "options" to choose between the two within your Google Analytics control panel - you either use the old analytics code on your website, or the new. Use the tracking code migration guide for info on how to do this: www.google.com/analytics/GATCmigrationguide.pdf

You can go to Analytics setting -> Edit , then click on Receiving Data (Check Status) link and you'll see two tabs with Legacy Tracking Code and New Code. From there you can copy new code and put it into your web site pages.
