World Wide Web crisis?
Hello here.
Well, since February, or better, since the Yahoo!'s move from Google to Inktomi, I began to notice a little but progressive decrease of the traffic (and consequent sales) on my website. Now, after about 5 months, my traffic is still going down. This is the first time a such issue happens after 5 years where my traffic and sales constantly increased.
After a long research I visited alexa.com where anyone can have trafic information on any website and I discovered that the most part of the sites are experiencing the same traffic decrease: Google, Amazon, AOL and may others are experiencing the same issue since February (you can try yourself starting from alexa.com and entering any site to have statistics of it). In the other hand, there are sites that are always constant like Yahoo! or MSN (Sitepoint has been also enough constant in traffic) and others increased (friendster.com and others). But the most part experiences my same issue.
What can be the cause of a such decrease? Maybe I have misinterpreted the Alexa's data or is it a coincidence?
Any idea and speculation (as well personal experiences) on this issue is very welcome!

I assume your data on traffic is coming from your lots.... alexa data is biased... but also it is TRAFFIC RANK and not visitor counts. If alexa data was "reliable" your site would only move up in rank if your marketshare of all web traffic is on the rise.

Thank you for your replies,
but my question was not "if the Alexa data of my site is reliable"... I am asking: does the overall data of the Alexa's database is reliable and can be considered enough realistic on the long period (as 5 months in my case)? In other words, if I found that the most part of the websites indexed by Alexa had a progressive droop in their rank in the last 5 month (exactly as I REALLY verified on my own server-statistics), does this can mean anything or is it only a coincidence? Really do you think that data is completely useless, even on the long period and considering as many sites as possible?

Thank you again.
Fab.
I think EGOL already answered this. I don't think Alexa is reliable in any respect. Their amount of visitors compared to my actual visitors is way off. They take a sampling based on those people who have DECIDED to install their toolbars. I believe he meant "overall".
As far as your site dropping off meaning a Web Crisis, this is ridiculous. You are choosing to factor out New Competition, Competition Lowering Prices, the Economy, Buying Habits, etc, etc, etc.
It may a seem a lot to compare over the last few years but you are still talking about ONE site in ONE industry. Hardly a crisis.

No robot can be trusted! We cant even trust ourselves!
Alexa is not reliable, neither is anything as nothing is perfect, and there are always other factors to add to the equation.
Thats why you never put off what you can do today, for tomorrow
Anyway, moving back on topic, i dont see this as a web crisis either.
