Wired Alexa Rankings... I don't get this

I just compared two heavy traffic sites of mine...
One has a ranking of ~ 30.000
the other one ranks at ~ 45.000
now this isn't strange... what is strange is that the 2nd one gets more traffic than the 1st one..
I checked the "Today's" colum for those numbers over at alexa for quite a few days now...

I don't get it... hows that happening? Makes me wonder if I understood how alexa works.

Comments welcome

More traffic (in general) is not equivalent to more Alexa traffic (or Alexa clicks). So do you mean more traffic or (specifically) Alexa traffic? I presume you checked your logs for these numbers...

Could be they didn't count certain clicks, maybe there were too many at once so it looked "suspicious"...

Alexa is only used by certain types of webusers (including SEOers) and Alexa users cannot be expected to represent the total web using population... And their clicking behaviour should not be misunderstood as regular traffic. Not all of it anyway. I'm sure Alexa knows that too.

yep I know... its just that the traffic (SE traffic) is for similair terms.. so the amount of toolbar installs and alike should be the same...

As you probably already know, Alexa is quite inaccurate, even if you have two sites that are similar in structure that are targeting the same keywords.
