Why I think Alexa Rating is bunk

I manage many sites - some of which get thousands of hits a week. None, however, have an Alexa rating below 452,414

But then 2 weeks ago I made a few scripts available on my side2.com site and suddenly it has a 295,512.

How can this be?

I think that the majority of people who use the Alexa bar are webmasters and surf this site.

Exactly... it's not a real good ranking until you look at sites under 10,000... and even then it's skewed. If your site targets webmasters it will be higher, if you cater to Mac or Linux users, it will be lower, etc.

Until you are under 10,000 it means nothing.

Your best indicator of success is your logs - they will tell you who is visiting, why and where they came from.

I don't know what to say... alexa algorithm seems to be strange, but as sraloff said use logs to measure your success
