How true is this comment?
"The Alexa Booster software will boost your Alexa rankings but it will also help increase your Google listings as well! When Google indexes your site, it will see in your log that you are receiving loads of hits thus giving your site more listing results simply because the Googlebot thinks your site must be relevant so it increase your results!"
Sounds like a load of bs to me, but has anyone experimented? Does traffic levels effect your SERP's? |

It has been observed that user behaviour can have a small impact on SERPs, but this would be from information passed back from the Google toolbar, together with referrals from Google searches.
Google doesn't look in your log files. This claim by the software vendor is just rubbish. |

Thanks,
So let me know if I have this correct... If someone does a search for my targeted keyword and then clicks my site, this has a positive effect on my SERPs? If so, why don't I do searches for my keywords and keep clicking my site? Would that be positive? As far as the google toolbar, I didnt quite get that bit. How would that have an effect? Aren't the only people with the toolbar those who want to monitor PR? And the only people who monitor PR are other webmasters... |

It can have a positive effect on your site if users are going to your site from the SERPs and staying there. Users going to your site, then returning back to the Google search in a short space of time won't - this would suggest that your site is not relevant to the query.
Your own contribution to the click-throughs would be minimal as a % of all visitors, and I'm sure that Google can see that your own clicks are artifical - same IP, browser, OS, etc - and would take that into consideration. Also bear in mind that any positive effect would be just a small part of the overall factors involved in your SERPs position. Information returned from the toolbar would have less effect since this, as you mentioned, is not used by everyone that uses Google, and only when the advanced features are used is any information sent back to Google (according to Google's privacy statement at any rate). But the data collected shouldn't be discounted entirely. Also not everybody who installs the Google toolbar is a webmaster (webmasters tend to install it for the pagerank feature, ordinary users are more attracted to the popup blocker, search field, etc). And even webmasters have been known to browse the internet for unrelated subjects. |

Avoid if using AdSense
Use of some of these auto serf programs violates a number of terms of service / user agreements for different revenue generating programs like Google AdSense. The can and they will detect (it happened to me) and you will forfeit any monies earned.
The only person who could wrinkle her nose and make everything just the way she wanted was Genie; if you're not a Genie - take it one step and one day at a time.

I couldn't agree more - people are way too hung-up on their Alexa ranking. I'm sure that they're doing lots of work to get away from just relying on the toolbar to provide their statistics but until they do it's too open for abuse (I know because I was hung-up on it too for a while.. the only people that were bothered were other webmasters and they soon learnt that it was faked... my Alexa ranking is a lot more realistic these days ;) ) |
