Alexa info just depends

If you are working with an advertiser like AdBrite - Alexa rankings are very important. In general, those rankings are considered less be cause they can be so easily manipulated.

I guess it just all depends on what associations or programs you work with that use Alexa data as to how important it is to you.

Hope this helps.

Alex rating shows the traffic to a particular site and thus indicates how much visible is the site to the search engines! Just my understanding.... ;-)

Alexa rankings are based upon only Alexa Tool Bar users who visit your site and then used to calculate and estimate of traffic (in otherwords, it's a mathmatical guess). They are inaccurate and not reflective of true traffic. From an SEO stand point, they mean squat. What matters is the actual traffic any given site is achieving and the diversity of kw phrases used to achieve that total traffic.

From a marketing standpoint, they mean squat, as again, anyone that has a clue about buying advertising is going to be more interested in your actual stat's rather than what Alexa decides it's going to show.

The best part abt Alexa i have observed recetly is that it shows the total history of website modification from the first day of the website to today , I really found some design of website of ours which i have forgot that sometimes ago it was a part of my creation and felt somewhat emotional to see them again !!

Alexa's silver lining

I do use Alexa for some SEO info though! I am not at all impressed by its Ranking because it is all too easy to manipulate (refresh your site a few hundred times a day and your ranking will soon sky rocket). However, as an online Marketeer I find it usefull at times because:

* It can show me - to a certain degree what competitor sites people who are interested in me are also interested in.
* I analyze these competing sites to see how I can improve on mine.
* I can find out the speed and BL's of these sites easily.

Let us call it the Silver Lining in a pretty much useless tool!

I think alexa's value isnt in your own website's stats.

Nope!
I like to look at the stats of my competitors to see how much traffic they are getting! I also watch the sites in my related industry to see any trends or buzz marketing that is going on.

Forget your own stats- the real value is in seeing other's stats!

I'm wondering, my site was doing fine and then suddenly Alexa stopped gathering data for my site. It just flat-lined as far as traffic goes. Is there any reason this might happen?

Specifically: my alexa ranking:
www.alexa.com/data/details/traffic_details?url=christian-lyrics.net

Thumbs down Alexa

I think Alexa's stats are best used to help determine who's taking the time to best manipulate their Alexa Rank.

Alexa is a good means to see general information about your site's performace and the results they provide are fairly accurate as to how your site stacks up on the internet. But Alexa is by no means a scientific way of tracking popularity, it is just results based on a sample group (people who have the Alexa tool bar determines results) and because of this, it is extremely easy for people to manipulate their results...

Take a look at the mover and shakers section on Alexa every now and again and I am sure you will be able to pick up who they are vs those that got their ranking legitemately.

I just can't believe that any of you would put credence in any ranking that is based ONLY on those that have a Alexa toolbar installed. Think about it... kinda dumb huh? I am not being insulting, just asking you to think. Alexa has its uses but NOT as an SEO tool.
