Most likely you have recently uninstalled the Alexa toolbar. (or someone that visited your site a lot uninstalled it) If you are not in the top 75-100,000 the ranking means nothing as it is grossly inaccurate.

As far as what to improve on your site, you can submit it to the "Site Review" category, and other SEOChat members will evaluate it for you. Just remember to read the sticky at top for instructions on how to post it.

LOL Jasontnyc - this combination got me to think... What if I asked for a Site Review like so:

Please review my site http://www.alexa.com/search?q=seochat+forum , click on the topmost thumbnail to get to it...

Actually I might try that later ;)

Why are you worrying about your Alexa rankings? Alexa is meaningless. The only ones that mean anything: Google, Yahoo, MSN, and Ask (Jeeves). Alexa rankings can be manipulated easily and have nothing to do with true SEO.

It can be used to impress a less informed (potential) client. Other than that, my ego for one likes a high Alexa ranking, even if manipulated ;) It's just that I'm too lazy to click on my own link on the Alexa serps - 30 times a day. I can imagine that someone about to break the 100,000 barrier doesn't like a (sudden) decline like that...

I agree of course that it doesn't get you any more traffic to your site, let alone real customers.

I did a lot of modifications on one of my sites recently - it has 0 visitors, because its not "live" yet - but my alexa ranking went from > 1.400.000 to 80.000 within two weeks. so the alexa ranking is really meaningless

Last month I discovered Alexa's reach rank is useful... to me.
I check everyday the ranking for my main site; we have not installed his toolbar and the reach rankings are around 15/20,000.
I know these numbers doesn't means nothing "absolute" but if one day is 17,354, other is 13.567 and next is 19,987 it could mean "something".

(Well... and the "ego issue" )

no

not totally meaningless. The alexa ranking is an indicator of how much potential your site has once optimized!

SiteTutor... pay your $5 and you are optimized for Alexa. Alexa is not only meaningless... it is useless.

alexa is almost useless. My traffic doubled and my alexa ranking dropped 25% this month.

Alexa not so bad. I never contact with partners with ranking over 400,000. And I too never enter forums with ranking over 100,000
Your traffic doubled, but others had much better, so your rank dropped.
I do think you have not very high ranking rite?

Alexa is BOGUS!!! Every few months I visit my site through their tool bar (BTW a couple of toolbars installed one on top of the other does eliminate popups) Every time I do that my alexa rankings shoot up. This has all occurred while traffic has been flat. When I stop my Alexa ranking goes down. Stupid trick!!!

In meeting with people that don't know SEO they may be impressed. Thats why I do that. Other than that it is a stupid trick.

Dave

Alexa doesn't have a realistic algorithm for rankings. In fact, it has none. They just track hits as you probably know. Also please note that Alexa traffic rank can be easily faked.

Alexa is both obsolete and forgoten. Still, it may help if you're in biz with Amazon, and if you use AdWords. The snapshoot of your website will be listed near your ad text ;)
