Alexa Rankings

How does Alexa calculate website traffic? It wouldn't be suprising if they only note clicks from their toolbar to a specific site at random intervals ie. they are not collect stats/clicks/visits continually. That would explain why some lower traffic sites calculation go up and down so excessively.

Exclamation

Exactly, You install alexa toolbar on your browser for a week and access your page.

All of a sudden you will find a increase in your site traffic, I might be wrong but this is what I have experienced. Now I don`t trust alexa ratings.
There have been lots of discussions going on same thing on other forums. Lets see what our senior members will be saying on this.

For the sites with higher traffic, it might provide good information "Relative" to other sites. The overall traffic number seem to be way off however.

Who keeps starting all these Alexa threads? Do a search on this forum, any forum, on Alexa and you will find that every thread says it is useless. Why ask questions about something that is meaningless and useless? Sorry, just had to vent... :-(

Because there is an "Alexa Ranking" category. What else would you ask about Alexa??? Only other question I would ask is "Why do their SERPs suck nutz???"

I wonder when Nielsen will come out with a web rating system

(I'm only half kidding)
