Lightbulb Alexa Ranking vs Real Stats

I will start with a site full of dust (forgotten for about a year). Its a small 10 pages destination travel guide for Chalkidiki Greece. (Chalkidiki is a large peninsula in the northwestern Aegean Sea.)

Chalkidiki Hotels Guide
The site has 5/10 Google page rank in all 10 pages with 1.000 visitors per month for 2007. (not bad for the effort)
Also has great Keyword placements in Google.
Position 5 (of 3.120.000 results) in Page 1 with "chalkidiki"
Position 9 (of 223.000 results) in Page 1 with "chalkidiki hotels"
which is what this site is created for.

But what about alexa? none, zero, nothing!
I cant post links as I am fresh to the forum but you can view the alexa traffic report at alexa.com/data/details/traffic_details/hotelschalkidiki.com

Lets see how will grow ... and why.

Next post will be for a hotel site in a Greek island. (with 2,906,042 Alexa 3 month average).

Thanks In advance,
Manos

Alexa ranking is useless, don't focus on it.

Alexa traffic rank is based on the number of visitors to your site with the Alexa toolbar installed. If your site appeals to a population demographic that in general doesn't use the Alexa toolbar, then it's never going to get a good Alexa rating. On the other hand, if a large percentage of your site visitors have Alexa installed (primarily techy/webmaster related sites) then you'll often get an unnaturally good Alexa rank for your site.

If you really want to improve your Alexa rank, install the toolbar yourself and visit your site every day. You'll be amazed at how much it will improve just doing that, which goes to show how little value there is to it.

Is it true? I didn't know. In that case I agree that this rank has a really low value!

And is it true for sites with 50.000 to 100.000 rank or only for over 2.000.0000 ranked sites?

Works good with firefox also ?
I will test it with hotelschalkidiki.com that has no ranking at all.

Don't encourage them - we'll end up with companies offering Alexa spamming services who will visit your site every day to give people an ego boost.

Thumbs down Fake Alexa Ranking

How many travelers from China visit Greece? About 50.000 - 70.000 per year according to Greece National Tourism Organization. So how can a Travel Guide for Greece have 74.3% visitors from China? (without Chinese language). View Greece Travel sites listed by Alexa Rankings and see how fake alexa ranking are

Alexa is just and average of everyone that has there toolbar. It is like TV ratings, they use the data from a small group to show what people are looking at on the web. Very inaccurate and not worth the time.

Alexia Toolbar gives incomplete data. They poll the people that have their toolbar and say that is what people are looking at on the web. Alexia data is incomplete and not worth time to worry about.
