alexa ranking indicate traffic
i am very much confused about alexa ranking.

bcos many websites having ranking between 1000 to 100000 and i am very much confused about their traffic

i am very much sure how much traffic they can grab but can not understand about alexa ranking

take a example this forum having ranking between 1600 to 1700 now and before some days ago it was between 1700 to 1800 we can imaging how much traffic coming on this site.

now take example of http://www.addictinggames.com this site
this site have alexa ranking between 4000 to 5000.
this site getting more than 4 lack visitors everyday. chek the traffic here http://extremetracking.com/open;sum?login=aggamd

now if this forum having nice ranking means this forum getting more than 8 lack visitors everyday?

personally i dont belive this that this forum getting this much traffic. may be this forums visitors mostly are webmasters who is using alexa toolbar so that this site getting more ranking than http://www.addictinggames.com

kindly anybody explained about this

You are correct.

In the past, I did an experiment. A new site of mine had a much higher alexa ranking than another site of mine which was existed for 2 years, and the traffic of the old sites had 17.xx times traffic over the new site.

I really don't know why there are still many webmasters focus on boosting/caring alexa ranking, and some even use this ranking to tell how high is their website traffic, and so that's why their advertising rate is high or how valuable is their site.

The secret that most newcomers to SEO love Alexa, is that because the more you focus on it, the higher your site ranks!

I fell into this trap some time ago! I kept on visiting my site 10-20 times a day, and i was impressed! My site jumped to the top 100,000 in no time!
But now, as i realized all this is fake, i uninstalled the toolbar, and my site is slowly drifting back to the 1,000,000th position!!

bottom line, Alexa represents too small of a population. Only those people with their toolbar determine the "traffic" to a site. Therefore, it's biased and inaccurate. Some people manipulate it as a selling point to promote their site. Don't fall for it.

i can prove that this alexa tool is all together a waste product ...its just a kind of promotional tool which the webmaster made so that his hit ratio increases
I used this for my site :placementindia.com at
1. http://www.alexa.com/site/ds/movers_shakers?lang=en
the results shows that my site is 94% slower downlading than other sites
2. http://www.skyart.org/web-promotion/
Then i checked at this url ,they also having alexa stats they says that my site is 6% slower than other sites
check it out they all our .......$$$$$

alex ranking does indicat some sort of traffic ranking if you don't instal alex toolbar

I am in the top 100,000 rank and improving every day. I have no idea why, I only visit my site every couple of days, I have never had the Alexa toolbar installed, and my site only gets a few visitors each day.

Is that site in your signature? My guess would be a high proportion of the people in this forum have the toolbar installed (although no one admits it) and any site listed on this forum gets a boost in Alexa.

When I posted one of my sites here many moons ago I saw a big jump in the Alexa rankings, of course that was before I realized it meant nothing.

I made a post earlier that alexa is a waste product ,,people should dump it in their warehouses (just delete it from your sites)
otherwise whats the reason for it showing different results for the same site ??????
