Alexa - a call list!?

Alexa is basically providing a tool for technology service and product companies to locate and contact potential customers.

I have some clients that are getting calls from companies that "found their name on Alexa". They can target the traffic rankings from 1 to 100,000.

Do you think that was Alexa's intent? I doubt it.

Good question Rusty. I am not sure either. I would like to think it was not their intention, but you never know. It would be worse if they were selling the information in large quantities.

I sometimes use Alexa and Traffic Ranking.com to get a general idea of how I compare to my competition but there is a large margin of error.

No, I doubt it too, but it raises some interesting questions. The popularity of alexa has gotten big. Sites boost their Alexa rating, with a nifty little box now. Or make it known world wide in mass emails. I personally direct interested Advertisers on my sites to my Alexa rating, to show them traffic levels. Are some of my decisions based on Alexa ratings? Hmmm...interesting, yes and no. I use it too detect fraud, and get an overview of site use.
Would I target companies because there Alexa rating was from 1 to 100,000. I don't think so. Alexa doesn't tell me anything about the people running the site, nor there intentions or if they even have a clue about business at all.
Hopefully the telemarkers will not get a hold of phone numbers in Alexa. Man, I don't think I can deal with anymore credit cards companies calling.
