Yahoo launching ad network comparable to Adsense (Tomorrow!)

http://news.com.com/Yahoo+to+launch+blog+ad+network/2100-1024_3-5815551.html

One main thing I noticed is that they plan to have more of a human element than Google. Wonder if they can have higher quality ads/publishers but still scale it to Google's size? (NO)

If they did require more of their publishers than Google...I might actually use it :p

raising the quality standards for publishers means less publishers in general. less publishers means less ads. less ads mean less money....

I don't disagree, but higher quality standards for publishers means more advertisers. More advertisers means higher bids.

The more I think about it, I think it might just be hype to shout "We're not Google!" so people will run to check it out

But it'll probably be just like Overture's (annoying) process.

Higher quality might lead to higher conversion rates... and that will enable advertisers to pay more.... and that will mean higher earnings for the publisher.

This could be win-win-win.

EGOL - Apparently I still can't rep you, but truer words have never been spoken. Competition in this space dictates a unique product and this is exactly where Overture can be unique - higher quality on all scales. If they can steal away the big publishers and big advertisers from Google thanks to higher quality and ROI, they can make Google the "spamvertiser" of the web... it could be an excellent branding strategy nevermind the direct monetary gains.

toddieg agrees: great point rand!
WeRASkitzzo agrees: Wow great post Rand. Yahoo would do well to hire more people that think the way you do.

depending on the popularity may dictate whether google loosens the purse strings on adsense.
