What's a good CPM advertising commission??
Hey there,
As many of you know there are affiliate programs and there are affiliate advertising programs. I was interested in setting up a travel only advertising network. So basically anyone that has a travel related site with a decent amount of pageviews can signup, get code and serve my ads on their site for a commission per CPM (1000 pageviews). So it's similar to AdSense but it's leaderboards (728x90) and skyscraper (160x600) images AND you dont have to get clicks to get paid. Now that the description for users that have no idea what the hell i'm talking about is out of the way onto the question I've looked around and the payout are all over board. So my question is how much is an average payout per CPM???? What have been your experiences with using affiliate advertising programs?? Any suggestions, questions or comments would be greatly appreciated! EDIT: Just to throw it out there I was thinking of offering $2 per CPM. From what I've seen that's out there it seems fairly high but it would be an exclusive network. Is that too high??? Too low?? Thanks, |

I think that the amout paid should be based upon the performance of the traffic that you get.
I could put your ad on the bottom of my pages and get paid for lots of impressions but not give you any traffic. My pages are VERY long. If my Travel site has lots of visitor with lots of money and a theme closely related to yours then I think that I should get paid a lot better than banners on an unrelated theme scraper site. So, if you base it on impressions then you might not be able to afford a presence on some of the sites with the best customers. Anybody who has such a site probably knows already that their ads are very valuable. Is there a way that you can make it win-win-win where you get great traffic that converts, the webmaster who delivers that great traffic makes nice money and the ads are highly interesting to the visitors that you will share. Most likely a commission on sales will be the best deal for all.

I already run a successful advertising business on one of my sites. What I'm looking for exactly is smaller mom and pop sites that are related to mine like hotel sites in specific regions, activity guides, adventure gear sites, etc. and ALL I want is to increase my impression base. I currently have about 1.8M impressions per adspot and just want to increase that overall number and run my customer's ads on other closely related sites and form a network of good quality travel sites. They borrow me their impressions and I pay them for it basically.

A decent CTR is nice but not mandetroy (but would be a bonus;) but pageviews mean more to me than clicks. This is just something I'm giving thought to and see if there is even demand for it. Just an easy way for travel sites that get a good amount of pageviews and want to make some extra money from it. I checked DoubleClick's banner affiliate program and they pay something like $.15 per CPM and that made me laugh so offering $2 per CPM I thought would be reasonable. Quote:
Always room for partnerships hehe. I hope that clarifies things alittle. |
