Off topic affiliate success??

Has anyone been successful in publishing off topic affiliate programs from their website?

For example, if you've owned a site about board games and had a successful run with webhosting affiliates.....

obviously these are examples, but has anyone had success like this w/ off topic programs?

I'd think it to be a waste of space to be honest.

If you did the board games site, having a "sponsored" ad for video games would make more sense...try to keep it complementary unless you know the demographics overlap significantly.

It would make more sense to have ads and banners/text links that are based on your website niche or overall theme. If i go to a travel website, and i also need a rental car for my vacation, and the site has a good offer, im more than likely to pursue the offer and maybe even make a purchase.

Build around your theme!
Another idea is that if you want to add webhosting as an affiliate link, and the company is your provider, you could do:
This site hosted by (webhost company)
or create a partner links page and add the link there or a sponsor page etc...

Cygnus agrees: Very complimentary EGOL; lateral thinking makes a lot of money.
