I don't think that's true! If they kick out affiliate sites, then their search engine will be downgraded as they won't be offering content for every searcher on the Web.

A lot of people look for affiliate related information. If there is no information on Google then they will go else where. So Google won't kick affiliates off.

Yep Google has been kickin' affiliate sites (and many other) out since Nov 16th Florida update. Not kicked out necessarily but filtered out. Mostly affiliate sites that were getting backlinks from none related websites and didn't have the content to back it up.

Anyone looking for affiliate related information will find it. They just wont find 70 affiliate sites using Orbitz affiliate program in the top 100 for "hotels" search. Alot of affiliate sites are MIA.

Google is filtering hotdog stand affiliate sites. A couple of them used to be mine.

In my opinion, even large shopping cart sites are takin some hits on nice keywords. I have a couple of those too... but surprisingly my traffic isn't suffering as badly as I would expect.

i used to be ranked #1 in about 5 keywords, and w/in top 10 results on about 20 words (w/google)(also i cant remember the words at this point), but now i cant be found within the top 50 pages w/these keywords. I think they are penalizing affiliate sites bad. I dont know how they knew we were an affiliate site though, because none of my links look like affiliate links

www.pcbunk.net

if you were a person, or even a crawler, how long do u think it'd take u to realize that's an affiliate site?...do you think theres any other way they can know besides the link formats, or even if they DO check the links?

I think the way Google detects affiliate sites is checking duplicate content.
Is duplicate content wich is penalized, not the affiliate quality of a site.

IMO, Google is NOT kicking out anyone on the basis of being an "Affiliate Site."

Affiliate Sites, however, are not immune to the algo changes, and they just may have a higher incidence than average of practices that butt up against the recent Google changes.

Since many affiliate sites are generally geared toward conversion they frequently lack what it takes to inspire inbound links.

Sites which are not well integrated into the web are the sites which are most likely to see large fluctuations in search engine position.

EGOL, I like that. Hotdog stand affiliates sites...lol. Yep it seems Google is cracking the whip and roping up some of those affiliates for a good whipping.
But where one affiliate sites disappears, another is there to replace it. Affiliate marketers are usually a smart bunch, and I would see this as an oppourtunity to watch the serps if I was a hardcore super affiliate. Or you could be smart, and design sites with some good content and relatively moderate affiliate links and be able to weather the storm a little better. By the way, Yahoo has been quite active in geting rid of these sites as well, but you couldn't tell from looking.

I haven't noticed anything specific to show an example - but I'd bet my bag of snausages that they are kicking affiliate links and pages out.... After all - the affiliates could just buy adwords campains right???

I have to agree with those that say no. I do not believe that Google is kicking out sites based only upon the fact that they are affiliate sites. However, it is generally more common to see an affiliate site using tactics such as Spam, duplicate content, link farms, and other methods to artificially inflate their page rank. That is why many of the affiliate sites are taking it on the chin with the Google algo changes.

One thing that is true with regards to this statement, is that Froogle, owned by Google, is not allowing affiliate sites to submit to their directory. They specifically state on the Froogle site that no affiliate sites are permitted.
