Does Clickthrough rate affect your "earnings" in Adsense?

I have noticed that sometimes when I get an especially high amount of clickthroughs with Google Adsense and my income for that day goes quite high, the next day the "earnings" will be a lot lower, almost like they're automatically adjusting for to high a clickthrough rate. Has anyone else noticed this? I typically earn $50 a day and sometimes if it goes up to $100, the next day will be down to like $30, even though the amount of clickthroughs are the same, as if they're averaging.

Along with that, what would be a reasonable CTR (clickthrough rate) that I should strive for? I usually have about 7%, but sometimes it goes up to 12 or 14%. Do you think if my CTR is to high, they're not gonna be happy and I should probably slide my ads down on the page, or use some smaller ad boxes, or something?

Thanks for the feedback Gchaney. I didn't know that CTR, or income were not supposed to be discussed openly. Are you sure about that and if so, do you have a direct Google quote you can reffer me to on it. If that is the case, I suppose the only reason for that would be to prevent disemination of knowledge, so everyone else doesn't know who's getting paid what. Anyway, my sites are not listed here so what do I care, let free market capitalism competition thrive.

I do not have any irregular CTR activity and I do know better than to click on, or encourage fraudulent clicks on my adds. I've been very careful about that. My issue is that when I place an add in matching colors at the top of the page, it naturally gets a lot more clicks, then when it's mid to lower on the page. I've heard people worry about having to high a CTR and I'm sure this will throw up red flags, so I am on the lookout for it. But I'm not gonna e-mail Google every time I get a few extra clicks more than usual, I'm sure that is not practical for anyone dealing in a fair amount of numbers. Obviously if my CTR hit 30% I'd start to worry and I'm sure I'd look into it. So really what I'm talking about here is the decision of how prominent to make, or not to make my adds on the pages.

Check the Terms of Service. Just saying how much you make breaks the rule. psst edit your post before Google sees it!!!

:::I would recommend editing your post.

Don't forget to edit YOUR own post! You quoted his full post, including the parts that break the rules!

:::You're paid based on the CTR per thousand impressions.

Payment is based on only the ammount of the bids of the links you click. You could get 100 clicks and make $5.00 for low bid links or make $500.00 on high bid terms, ie mesothelioma.

:::My issue is that when I place an add in matching colors

I changed the text colors two days ago and that alone almost doubled my CPM.
