Different Ad Format - Anybody Tried It?
Check out the ads on this page... scroll down and look at the body text for words with a double underline.... when you mouse over them a small ad with an "adsense look" appears. Has anyone tried these ads on their website?

The site must have changed because I didn't see any dbl underlines, but I know what you are talking about. A site I used to learn HTML from (years ago) uses them.
Example: http://www.htmlgoodies.com/beyond/php/article.php/3472391 They are 'sponsored links.' I kinda like them because it doesn't really take away from the main text, you don't have to find a spot to fit the ad and make it fit your site's look... and you still get the ads. For information on how that site uses it and what system it is... http://www.vibrantmedia.com/whatisIntelliTXT.asp?ipid=1473&cc=us&server=us.intellitxt.com:80 |

I took a look into these, I think any potential revenue depends on the niche of your sites as there isn't such a great range of ad bidders, it'll pick up OK on keywords like email, internet, spam, virus etc. with related ads, but moving away from these types of keywords and the pickings aren't too good.
If Google used something similar with their advertiser portfolio then it could get interesting. |
