Which is better - Text vs. Image Ads

I am very new to adsense. I had 2 quick questions. In general, which type of ad's (text or image) usually provide higher click through rates?

Question 2 is if I want to go with image ad's is there a way to have text ad's show as a backup option? Right now, it looks like when you choose text and image ad's, it defaults to text ad's. I want images first and if there are no ad's matching the content, backup to text ad's rather than the non-profit ad's. Thanks in advance...

I believe that the results will strongly be tied to ad content. For sites that I would not mind an image ad I allow google to decide.

I have had the best luck running a combination of both from google and a mixture of casalemedia and google image ads in a rotation style.

Ultimately it depends on your content though, if you content is rich, then the ads will target well to what your customers are looking for.

Well they always say text links convert better than banner ads, but since Adsense is a little different than banner ads, I agree you should test and measure results to see what works best for your site.
