Create a website you are interested in. Make it informative and offer something new.
Market your website online at relevant forums, press releases etc to get visitors. These in turn should turn into what we call "quality links" or "reputation points" (in terms of google) as they were put there naturally by the website and were not obtained through unethical means. What this does is tell google your website is relevant to the topic you chose and in turn will put you up in the search engines. This will then drive more traffic to your website and you can then look at converting these visitors to money. i.e. if you are writing about computer products - you can become an affiliate to online electrical stores. What this means is that if you provide them with a customer you will get a certain amount of money. so thats my VERY brief explination on how many make money online. I cant emphasize enough that without doing something you are fasinated about or really enjoy you most probably will not make it. You need to be able to write about a topic with as much experience or enthusiasm as you can. This really comes off when a user is reading your content, and the website will be respected and maybe loved more then others on the same topic. Any questions, just ask Bare in mind that some spend years trying to make it, but few ever do. You need to be dedicated. But i suppose if you have to be due to a financial crisis theres none better to have the determination needed! Last edited by seomonkeymanocp : July 21st, 2008 at 05:16 AM. |

Being new to all of this, I'm not sure if you'd want to put all your eggs into one basket. If you need money that badly, you may want to get a job doing what you know, and begin an online business on the side. If you have a nestegg to hold you over for a year or so, then you could probably jump right into it.
It takes a lot of time and know-how to make a living from an online business. It's not impossible, but I suggest you have a back up plan because it's risky (like any business.)

Making a living on the web is not for a person who worries excessively. Most people here, including me, have seen websites that they have worked long and hard to build be beaten or dropped from rankings. BAM!, your income from that channel is gone. IF you are going to spend time in worry rather than attacking get a job at a store or office or restaurant where you earn guaranteed money. There is no guaranteed money on the web and if you watch the threads on this site you will see many people each week post a crying thread that they site was wiped out. Quote:
"Sitting"... most of us sit while we work but to be successful you must be aggressive in your plans and your efforts. If you are not prepared to attack to win get a job that pays guaranteed money. Quote:
We can advise but you must do ALL of the work. If you are entering this with no skills as webmaster go to the job that pays guaranteed money and as suggested above do this on the side until your online income is double to triple your guaranteed job... because you will need a cushion for when a big site defeats you. Every dollar that we earn once went to someone else. On the web it is kick their asses and take their money. So if you are not inclined to deliberately take the lunch of another the job with guaranteed money is probably for you.

Try to start blogging. Forget about website.
Do hard work to make it popular. once it will popular and get good PR you can say that you have worth property. after that you can continue running it or sell it its all up to you. Blogging is really good way to earn money from online and your dedication can convert it in to guaranteed money. but but you need to be smart enough here cause as per Egol said there is no guaranteed money on net he is right so you just create tow or three source of income so crises can not disturb you. I have been applying this same formula with my 7 blogs. I am having full time job so I only updating one of them as I am getting time and it will work for me to earn 3 or 4 $ per day with 30 to 40 minute. |

As Egol mentioned, it's an agressive marketplace. If you're not ready to kill, prepare to be killed. Actually if you're not prepared to kill, you're not even gonna make it into the arena to have the chance of being killed.
Judging from your post, it sounds like you don't have much experience and are looking for an easy money job that you can do while watching TV in the background. With the emerging web skills being outsourced, making money on the web is increasingly competitive. It's a full time job. Those that are successful could probably make even more money with a brick and mortar business than on the web. But there is something very appealing to low overhead and being able to work in your underwear. But, again as Egol mentioned, it's not all sitting in your underwear. I spend as much time on the road meeting with people as I do sitting in front of my computers. In today's market, you need to be present in every way and able to wear many different hats to get to the end goal: financial independence. |

I concur wholeheartedly based on years of experience running multiple businesses online full time. To answer your question and to really get to the bottom of what the mindset is... NO, You and No one else can ever "depend" as you say on an income derived from the internet. The true context and question is can you be depended upon to aggressively pursue your business plan in order to even hope to create wealth online. It goes back to the entrepreneurship mindset vs. "jobbers" mentality. It is extremely difficult for people who have been working a "job" to ever adopt the mindset necessary for successfully competing in the online marketplace. Why? Because unlike working for someone else at a job, when you run your own business... You have NOONE to blame. No one period but also no one but yourself. That goes straight against the grain of most people who are content to trade their lives working to make someone else's dream happen. If you will take accountability and realize that solely YOU alone are responsible for the success or failure of your business, then that is the first step. Mindset is of paramount importance for building your first business online and you need to study other successful businesses and despite what they tell you they do, look for the "points of leverage" and see how you can adapt those to your own with your own unique sales proposition. If you aren't selling a service or selling a product... you aren't making money. Don't be fooled into confusing activity with accomplishment. Those promising you that your ticket to financial freedom is at the other end of promoting THEIR affiliate program obviously aren't the most objective. That is of course unless it's me. Of course I'm being facetious on that one but said that to give you some context for seeing the point which has hopefully been expressed plainly enough for digestion. Now, don't let that discourage you from arming yourself with knowledge, resources and information to begin studying on how you can become successful. But, it's just important to know that no one will do it for you and that there is no free ride. Hope this helps, Doug |

faith as a Christian - hard to monetize
kayaking - can be monetized if you build a great product review site or a site about places to kayak... go out on the web and see who has done this... if you can compete with them then you might succeed. IF you can't compete with their content then your chances are diminished. hiking - same comments as above. astronomy - same comments as above but competition here is exceptionally fierce because of lots of content on NASA and university sites plus the NASA data is public domain and lots of webmasters use it - some are professional publishers or professional astronomers. You also compete against powerful news sites. This is recommended if you already have lots of traffic that would consume this content. If you must compete in the SERPs for the traffic then it will be very difficult to get a foothold. Japanese language - a travel site or language learning site might do well if you can compete with the expert content that is already out there |
