Google Adsense is pay per click PPC
Google affilate network is Pay Per Action PPA
Action could be complete sale complete form etc

You are better off with other affilate networks as you have better control over the ads

I have tried both on the same site.

I slected the ads but google displayed other ads!

affilate change the pay rate after I signed up for their ads from $25 to $3
