I don't know the answer to your question, but here is the view from the other side.
I have an affiliate relationship and frequently I "own" the index page of the affiliate program in the google SERPs. This is because I am blasting tons of great anchor text and PR into them from hundreds of PR6 pages on several sites. Their good position in the SERPs for many terms is a benefit of our relationship - and I get commissions on much of their SERP traffic in return. IMO I have increased their reach in the SERPs by writing clever anchor text. I did this because it increased my commissions - and they have enjoyed the extra sales. There have been times when I have promoted a product other than theirs on all of those pages and when I change the link their rankings drop like a stone - deep enough that not very many people find their site. So, your position in the SERPs is supported in part by your affiliates - and your best affiliates understand this very clearly. The extra commissions that they get by owning your pages in the SERPs is all considered in their ROI for the links that they have up for you and the space that you get on their sites. Allowing their affiliate id on your page in the SERPs might make the difference in their continued relationship with you - and I doubt that you want all of their links pointing at your competitor's site. I hope that you find the situation that makes the most money for you and for them. Consider making them part of your team and getting their advice for tweaking the code and content of your website and your linking structure. Some of these affiliates are really smart people. You both might get more back from that partnership than you ever imagined.

Part of the team
Exactly, it's like outsourcing your seo into an expanding team. Just make sure your commission is good enough to keep them sweet and on side.
If not then would you be better spending the commission you are paying out on a salaried seo employee. |

Be happy that your domain is charting at #1 for the keyword you want. True you might have to *pay* someone for there hardword and skills at SEO (heaven forbid...) but theres no "File a Complaint" section on Google for people who don't get what they want.
