Affilaite commision robbing?
I have been with an affilaite program and have been getting lots of conformations of sales.
All the sales have been from people i didnt know and have had no contact with. When i have been helping people sign up for the program and downlead the program and teach them how to use the program for some reason i havent been getting a conformation. I have been saying to them `just use the pay by paypal link becuse it is faster` It now turns out that any sale (a lot of them) that i make when they pay by paypal is nullified from commision and not tracked so i dont get commision. Is this normal for an affilaite program to do or is it considered staeling from your affilaites? Last edited by EarlGrey : June 27th, 2005 at 11:58 PM. |

I think that you should call the program manager and calmly explain your concern.... and see what they say. Its possible that they have some clever way of identifying your sales via paypal and will post to your credit later. (I doubt this but it might be possible).
I have quit lots of programs because they have toll free numbers in the shoppers face, links to other affiliate programs that they get the commissions for and links to other websites where they sell competing products - but don't give me commissions. Give them a chance to explain. And if you don't like it you will need to decide if you are switching to their competitor - and it might pay to check out their competitors offers in advance. You might test the waters there to see if they pay higher or track your sales more carefully. I hope that this resolves to your satisfaction.

Thanks Egol
I did contect the affilaite manager and this was the response. start email---------------------- 1. Commission is not payable on Paypal signups. If they are currently sign up as Paypal have them cancel Paypal payment and enroll with creditcard to start receiving Commision on them. They will not need to reinstall or change Computer Id's. 2. Commision is paid on a signup after they are subscribed for over 30 days without refund and will continue until canceled. 3. We pay the 15th for the previous months enrollments such as paid June 15th for enrollments during April 15th-May 14th. Article Bot Billing end email ------------------------ So by the looks of it i need to go to everybody that signed up under my link that i know of and if they dont have credit cards i need to get them to apply for credit cards and then cancel and then re-sign up. I havent done a lot of this affilaite stuff before and i am not impressed to be honest. |

At least they were honest with you when asked.... but they should have been clear from the start that paypal sign-ups do not pay commission.
I would not chase those customers who paid by paypal. I would instead call the affiliate manager and give him/her their names and tell them that you feel that they should pay you the bounty for those sign ups. Also that they should either find a way to track the paypal signups or take that off of their website to be fair to affiliates. Or pay affiliates a prorata cut of the paypal signups based upon their percent revenues through that source times your percentage of their total business... or ask them to simply up your percentage based upon the proportion of customers coming in thorugh paypal. I think that you have somewhat of the driver's seat here since you busted them on this issue - and if they want to keep you they will be receptive. Most affiliate programs will cut a sweeter deal for high producers - they might bump you up a bit to keep you happy about this paypal loss to your revenue. |

I dont think they care if they keep the affilaites or not.
They made nothing clear when i signed up. I think i just made a mistake even having anything to do with them. When i sent them a sale they spoke to the person and called him an `idiot` so he decided afer the owner had called him an idiot he wasny going to join. Probably wouldnt have mattered anyway becuse he was paying paypal anyway. I will add it to my grudge bank and clock this up as blog fodder and experience. Thanks Egol, |

Man. You're much nicer than me Egol. I'd post a nasty thread in my blog and advertise it. Kinda depends on the money I lost though. Some things I just chalk up to experience. G-Man

To be blunt, yes.
If they try to cross sell by any of the means you outlined 1-800, other products, etc then they are pretty much trying to steal from you. I definately wouldn't trust their accounting. I would tell as many people as possible who these people are because nobody in their right mind would want to do business with them. |

I agree with EGOL,
Talk to the manager and give them a chance. Some programs are not well managed or left on auto-pilot without really realizing the consequences of their actions and how it affects affiliates. If you don't get a good answer then by all means give them the boot and find another merchant.

Sometimes you can predict the reaction of the manager by his behaviour towards his (prospective) customers. And since most blackhats appear to be pressed for time and resources and stuff... ;)
I agree that most people deserve a second (or even a third or fourth) chance, but on occasion you just can't be ar**d |
