Adsense or Affiliate
Hello;
I am building a website/blog and wonder if I should place google ads or affiliate programs. The site/blog will have articles on cooking and recipes so I thought I might do better using some text links and make them look like google ads and then toss in some image links when writing articles about a specific item. what is your opinions Thank You Al |

Why make the text links look like Google Ads ?
Why not use the real thing.. ? |

For me: Affilliate ads suck, but I make some good money on Adsense. It is site, subject and visitor dependent.

"It is site, subject and visitor dependant" I have a golf blog in which I did a article about "Titanium Drivers" and all the ads were about cars. So why would targeted affiliate ads not work if I were to choose what is part of the post instead of an search engine alorhythm?

So just place both.

I have tried a lot of both. It depends upon the content of your website and the types of visitors you get. In general adsense has performed better for me, but I do have a couple affiliate offers that do well.
I say, start with adsense and then Experiment.

You're comparing apples and oranges. In terms of contextual ads Google wins out, nothing compares, unfortunately. You'd think yahoo and MSN would get their crap together to rival the money making machines adsense is but meh.
Affiliates have a different purpose, generally you're selling products/services and not just traffic. Generally, you can also use both on the same page. So what are you REALLY trying to do? Find out by testing it yourself.

In order to generate hits on affiliate ads, you need to focus your website, backlinks, and SEO efforts to attract visitors that like your very narrow niche of that specific affiliate. That is a huge amount of work and a gamble because you need to have a great performing affiliate product. Woe unto you if your affiliate product turns out to be less lucrative than you though. Massive amounts of your work will be wasted.
Google ads are much more flexible because Google presents the ads which are appreciated by whichever visitors are attracted to your content. This gives you the flexibility to blog about any subject which is the focus of your interest. And, little variety makes your website much more interesting to visitors. So Google ads let you setup a win-win situation for you and your visitors (and your pocketbook, too). |

I use 95% AdSense as it performs way better than any other affiliate program I have used. But this depends, as it has been said before, on the type of site you have and on the visitors.
If agmccall's site is about Titanium Drivers maybe AdSense might show wrong ads and in this case I would put 100% related affiliate codes.

Put both of them there, it wouldn't hurt.
That's what I'm doing but so far affiliate marketing hasn't given me jack lol. Adsense though, you can just leave it on there and it will generate income. Very small, but takes far less work. |

Well, all depend on your arrangement. If you want to involve in affiliate programs, get those related to your blog/website. By the way, you can do text link also which is new concept and already implemented by kontera & Adbrite
