Hi,
My site's CTR generally has always bounced around 1-1.3%, however my page eCPM keeps going down consistently the last three months. It used to hover around $1, but now is down to around .30 cents. My click rate hasn't really changed at all. Every so often (around the first and mid part of the month) there will be a few days where it goes back to close to a $1 eCPM, but then drops back down. Any ideas what is going on here, or how I can increase my eCPM? It is really effecting my overall profit, as it is now 1/3 of what it was three months ago, despite the number of ad clicks and my traffic staying the same. My site is: http://www.ratemyeverything.net if anyone has any advice, it would be much appreciated. Thanks. |

How about an aggressive bidder who is reducing the amount bid? Or maybe that bidder got smart and made better landing pages? Or a promotion that is now over and no one bidding on those KWs? Seasons change, tax time comes and goes, products go out of cycle, attentions from advertisers heat and cool.
If you are in a small niche and I bring in a site on your topic that generates 70,000 clicks per day then the supply just shot up, thus price might go down. My response to this would be experiment with ad placement, ad format, get more traffic, write more content.

Egol is bang on as usual.
HOWEVER, he forgot one scenario: Google simply tightening the purse strings because they want to milk advertisers for every penny to stock up on their billions. Without any viable alternative they can do as they please.

Hello ratemyeverythin,
To my knowledge, Google has a rating system for publishers' sites. It's possible that the ads which are directed to your site these days have a lower cpc than the previous ads. Finding ways to increase your site's traffic may help. You may also want to consider additional ad networks to generate more revenue to your site. For information on Kontera ad network, feel free to ask. Hope this helps, Mika, Kontera Optimization Team Last edited by mika.tal : August 21st, 2007 at 10:37 AM. |

I agree with you Google want to milk as much money as possible. They see most of the advertisers money and we as publishers get the cents They have tyo maintain their stock price |

It could just be a shift in the advertisers spending for your current niche. Maybe it's just a temporary shift and will resolve itself in a few weeks or a months time.
