Adsense font size ....

Hey all,

I've seen some sites that have an area for adsense, and in it is just 1 LARGE adsense ad...

Does anyone know how this is done ?

If you have 20 million pageviews per month (I think that is the right number) you can become a premium publisher. That gives you the ability to make custom ad sizes and formats.

I salivate when I think of what I could do with ads like that. I hope that they lower the number so I can start making those ad units.

Hmm.... yes ... I feel the same way ....

Actually I don't see why they should be making that so hard ... Anyone with some education in advertising and who understands the extra stimulation that advert-size control could give should make it available to anyone.... But google doesn't obviously ...

Can you imagine if every site had LARGE ads though? That might not be so visually pleasing...maybe Google wants to make sure you know what to do with the tools before they give it to you, that's why they set such limits. I know it's not the best way to measure how knowledgable one is with advertising, but at least it limits the number of sites with gigantic ads.

Is that for one site or accumulative?

Placing large ads in site is more favorable in google's side...it can help a lot on thier client especially if you put it in more visually places/part of your site....

But you need to get every ad unit approved by Google, designwise and codewise. I am not sure if there is such a limit as 20Mio anymore or if they pick by hand.
Nevertheless I can tell you that this ad what e.g. the NYT is using under their content is the killer ad without a doubt

Are you guys sure you know what you are on about with these large ads or is it just me not knowing what you are on about.

Every publisher that's in Google can have large ads. Every site that uses Adsense normally shows the larger ads from time to time. The large ads is the ones that are showing the advertisers site targeted campaigns that are paid to you on a CPM basis for showing them. So if you get a good amount of advertisers selected your site to target their ads directly then you will also receive large ads. That's one large ad per ad unit.

We are talking about the ability to customize the size of the ad unit and change the fonts/colors.

I don't have 20 million views per month either. However, I believe that I could make more money if they gave some additional ad formats.
