Many people are making the ads look like content. The biggest reason why people don't look at ads is because they have trained themselves not to. If you remove the box and place it right next to some good content, your CTR will definitely go up.

recently I started to use the 468 wide banner type adsense ads with no box and the same color background (white) as the rest of the page. I also am using red for the title of the ads and the rest of the text is the same color as that of the text on the page. I place them in the middle of the page content, centered. It seems to be working a bit better.

For my message forums I have them integrated into the actual posts. To see what I mean go to http://www.sportcompactracing.com/vbulletin
Also setting the background color to match the background of your page helps. That way they look like regular links on your site. Lastly try some of the larger creatives. The 468x60 only get about 1/10th the clicks for me that my larger sizes get. |

very well done, 1EightT. I'm sure you have a good CTR. CTR for forum is about 0.1-0.5%.

I did see a nice boost in CTR once I made the changes you see on that forum. The other thing is, and this is just a theory. If you remember back a couple months, google said that they were basing the payout per click on the content the ads were shown in. An ad on a review page is worth more than an ad on a general page, etc. It seems that my average payput per click is higher with the ads integrated this way. I only have a few weeks of data to back that up, but I do notice a change with it. Just something I thought I would throw out there.

I saw higher a EPC comes with a higer CTR. This may be part of Google's smart pricing formula.

This is really interesting 1EightT. Do you remember where you read it? I would like to read it too. Thanks

Egol, you should have received an email from Google regarding this. They sent one out describing the changes they were making to adsense payouts a while back (maybe 2 months ago??). Something like that.

I would like to see a copy of that if someone still has it. I had an email from them for June, but it was not in there. I also just looked through the help section on the adsense site and there was nothing about it there either.
Does anyone remember if they said it was where the ad was physically placed in relation to text? I need to actually read those emails. |

I would advise against the multiple ad units per page, as while it can increase CTR, it effectively lowers Price-Per-Click by an inversely proportional amount...as people will click on less valuable ads....

K, it was back on April 1st I believe, when they introduced the concept of Smart Pricing for adwords. https://adwords.google.com/select/news/sa_mar04.html - basically, if an adwords advertiser pays less for a click than he normally would have, then the adsense publisher gets less too. So even though this page is adwords related, it affects adsense as well.
