Question Ad Blocker Blocking Affiliate Links?

How many people have an ad blocker such at Norton on their computer which blocks out affiliate pages? Is there a way to get by the people that block ads? Is this a matter of significance? I would like opinion on the matter. I have an affiliate site and if ad blockers are on, it's almost non-functional. Thank you,

Scoob

I think that your bigger worry is the snipers that detect when you are on an affiliate program site - then swap your affiliate id for their own. Check out ebates.com

You can send the affiliate links to your own site and then redirect from there.

Even though I am the anti-parasite crusader, I actually think now that Norton IS is shipping on most computers, it's bigger threat to affiliate income than parasites are.

This page shows examples, lists of what works, affiliate networks and image sizes are blocked and also offers some solutions about how to get around the blocking.

Hope this helps and best of luck!

Ad-blockers block javascript pop-up windows and remote images (images that are located on another site not yours - ie commission-junction banners).

A way around this is to use affiliate programs that allow you to host images locally. This would rule out pay-per-view programs but I have better luck with pay-per-click and per-sale programs anyway. Unfortunately newer blockers are also targetting Google Adsense.

CJ has a new solution to help get qround this ad blocking issue. They just started implementing it about a week ago.

Also I worked with www.Shareasale.com and www.DirectTrack.com early on to tell them how to change their links so they are no longer blocked. www.myap.com has a solution to get around the blocking too.

I was interviewed back in October for an article for Internet.com about Norton blocking affiliate links and revenue. Forgot all about it and then just discovered that the article was indeed published this month.

"Affiliate Marketers: Blocking Software Is Killing Us"

"Besides searching and destroying viruses and erecting protective firewalls, Symantec's Norton Security 2005, McAfee Internet Security Suite 2005 and other PC security products block ads and cookies, which cause affiliate marketers to lose sales."

Here is the article with some good info:
http://www.smallbusinesscomputing.com/emarketing/article.php/3442701

I am glad the media is putting a spotlight on this issue, FINALLY. I have been trying to spread the word and harping about it the issue for months in several forums and here:
