Activex... serious $$$

I have a popular site that gets about 4,000 visitors every day (3,000 unique).

I had a terrible time trying to find a way to get an income from such crazy traffic. I tried everything I could think of... popups, popunders, banners, affiliate products... no success at all.

I then decided to swallow up my pride and use activex popups. And voila, money started pouring in. I was getting about $15 each day.

Last week I got an email from an activex company saying they were increasing their payout amount, so I decided to give them a try. I almost fainted when I checked my stats for today and saw that I have earned a bit over $50. Yes, I know, activex are the last thing you should use on a site, but geez... how the heck can you beat 50 bucks in a single day??

as far as I know, they are popups, but you have to have activex installed to view them?

hmm,

I agree that it is a lot of money, but in my oppinion that is not the best long-term decision.
I would not be surprised if your visitors amounts start to drop soon. What type of site do you have?

Stinkoman, active x popups are programs that when you install them you start getting advertising popups as you surf the web, they are adware programs.

It's a controversial technique indeed, I personally do not use them because I value return visitor loyalty.

But to each his own.

MANY of these programs are filled with PARASITES that steal affiliate commissions.

You may make 50 today but you could be losing income from other affiliate programs that the parasites steal from.

Here is info on JUST ONE of the programs that comes bundled in many of these ActiveX programs.

The Effect of 180solutions on Affiliate Commissions -
Spyware Research, Legislation, and Suits
http://www.benedelman.org/spyware/180-affiliates/

EVEN MORE IMPORTANT, by spreading pops, adware, spyware and malware, you are causing more and more surfers to get anti-spyware software and firewalls. MANY OF THESE PROGRAMS BLOCK OR EAT AFFILIATE COOKIES.

Please don't promote the dark side. Your users will also get pissed because you mucked up their computers.

Fryman is trying to get people to sign up on his 2nd tier so he can profit from YOUR efforts to help spread this stuff.

These activeX programs hurt the affiliate industry in a number of ways. DON'T DO IT, PLEASE!

2nd tier? What are you talking about?

At least I don't go around posting things like "oh, come join my network, my top affiliate makes $10,000 each month" and hide the fact that the other million affiliates make 20 bucks.

Yesterday I made over $60... at this rate I will earn almost $2,000 this month... much better than earning cents promoting affiliate stuff that no one buys.

Trying to discredit me or the highly ethical programs that I work with - with statements that are not accurate,
does not make you look any better.

Promoting ActiveX programs hurts the industry in general as stated above.

I guess ActiveX works in some niches like warez/cracks etc etc, because those kind of websites usually just stay online for a short time.
But for guys like me, that spend a lot of time trying to make my website popular as possible is not worthable.
Thats my umble opinion.
